I'm a RFE (Radio Frequency Engineer). I build networks. I select where we should put new cell phone towers, at what height we should put the antennas, what kind of antennas we should use, what direction we should point these antennas. My job is to make sure when someone places a phone call, the call gets connected, they have good audio quality, their calls don't drop. When someone's using phone for browsing internet, they get good speed and can upload/download data fast.
I wanted to be independent. My parents were very supportive. Engineering seemed to be a good option.
I did my Masters in Electrical Engineering from Univ. Of Texas, Arlington. I did Undergrad from India.
My typical day is not always predictable. I work with different teams like Real Estate, Construction, Equipment, Planning to make sure work gets done right.
The best thing about being an engineer is that I feel my opinion is valued. I get to work with cool/new technology. The choices I make have an impact on people's day to day life.
I stood 1st in my Post graduation class. I stood 2nd in my Undergraduate class. I got my PMP Certification
My biggest challenge was coming to USA all my myself. I didn't know anyone. It was scary as it was the first time I got on a plane and left India to come here. I stood strong and didn't let anything come in my way. It was tough but I faced it.
I have two kids in Elementary School. I live with my husband in Charlotte, NC
Short term goal is to continue doing what I'm doing. Keep inspiring others, coaching them. Long term goal is to see my self in a leadership role where I can do more of this and have larger impact on others.
My family...my dad, my mom
Never give up! You can do anything you want. Don't let anyone tell you that "you can't do this because you're a girl"
